Diverse general cargoes have been handled on the premises of the terminal since the port in Gdynia was built.
From the beginning of the Port of Gdynia, the Regions I and II specialized in handling of all kinds of general cargoes. As a result of privatization processes of Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia S.A. [the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. – Joint Stock Company], on 1 August 1995 a commercial law company under the name: BTDG – Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o. [the Baltic General Cargo Terminal Gdynia Limited Liability Company] was set up. It took over the port operations in basins IV and V i.e. the former Regions I and II of the Port of Gdynia.
In August 2001, after three years of planning and construction, a new specialist and dedicated ro-ro terminal was opened in the former general cargo basin V, as part of the operations of Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o., In consultation with the customers handling ro-ro cargoes at the Port of Gdynia, at the turn of July and August 2001, all the traffic of these cargoes was transferred from the Gdynia container terminal to the terminal operated by Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o.
In later years, apart from further outlays on the technological potential of the ro-ro, lo-lo and sto-ro facilities, a number of investment projects were implemented as aimed at adapting the terminal to transhipment and storage of dry bulk cargoes.
In December 2010, Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o. started handling dry bulk cargoes, such as feeds, cereals, coal, coke and biomass.
On 1 July 2014, the company OT Logistics S.A. acquired 100% of the shares of Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o. from Zarząd Morskiego Portu Gdynia S.A. and thereby, the acquired company joined the companies associated in the OT Logistics Capital Group.
In June 2015, Bałtycki Terminal Drobnicowy Gdynia Sp. z o.o. changed its name to OT Port Gdynia Sp. z o.o.
